Barbados is 166 square miles with a population of approximately 270 thousand people. The capital city is Bridgetown, with our own Barbados dollars currency,but US dollars , travelers cheques, and credit cards are accepted. A number of International Banks operate branches in Barbados and currency can be exchanged easily.


 

All Barbados island residents speak English. The island requirements are; every visitor must have a valid passport as well as a valid drivers license.

Driving on the island is on the left hand side of the road.

 

Weather:

Barbados is mostly sunny with cool breezy wind. Our rainy season is generally September through November. This does not mean it falls all day. Sometimes it falls during the morning and by noon we have sunny skies. Hurricanes seldom affect Barbados because of its location.

 

Beaches:

Visitors can bathe at a number of beaches around the island ,among which are Sandy beach, Miami beach, Accra beach all located in the parish of Christ Church; Brownes Beach and Brighton beach in St. Michael as well as Mullins beach located in St. Peter to name a few.

 

Sightseeing and Places of Interest:

There is the Gun Hill signal station, and the stone carving of a lion as well in the parish of St. George

Harrisons Cave in St. Thomas

Andromeda Gardens and The Flower Forest in St. Joseph

Farley Hill National Park in St. Andrew

The Animal Flower Cave in St. Lucy

Shopping:

There are several Duty Free shops located around the island but there are quite a number on Broad Street, Bridgetown where you can purchase items of Jewelry, Clothing, Bags, Souveniers, Watches and so on at very competitive prices

 

Dining:

Fine dining restaurants and a number of other places to eat including fast food outlets can be found throughout the island as well as the ever popular Oistins Fish Fry specializing in fry and grilled fish and other local dishes, located in Oistins , Christ Church. Our national dishes include cou cou and flying fish and pudding and souse.
